ASTM Tensile Test Specimen Sizes

ASTM A-540 requires the mechanical tests to be conducted in accordance with the Methods and Definitions in A-370. Para 11.2 of A-370 allows the use of proportional small sized specimens as shown in the noted figure.
When A-540 production pieces are too small to yield a standard sized specimen, are the proportional small sized specimens prohibited in A-540 or A-370?

But I get very angry when a lab uses a sub-sized sample and does not state it on the report.

I agree with Ed. On both counts.

When you send a test piece out are you requiring a full size specimen?
