ASTM vs SAE

We have been using ASTM A1011 Hot rolled Pickled and Oiled sheet steel and our purchasing department has been offered SAE J403 1006 is this a direct equivalent?

Have you read either of these? You need to buy copies and read them.
They might be very similar, but in some cases they are very different.
Check properties, tolerances, and surface finish.
