We have a project for a motor that is going into a hazardous area. The clients specification says that the motor has to be flame proof. Our supplier has offered an Exd motor. My question is about the Vsd drive. This will be located away from the hazardous area but what precautions/ extra items are needed that are different from an ordinary Vsd if it has to run a motor in a hazardous area?

Thanks

From our perspective, we would provide an optional thermistor input that is certified for ATEX to allow operation of EExd motors:
The UK trade organisation GAMBICA also published a useful document:

I would check with your drive and motor supplier to ensure compliance.

Thanks very much, a most useful document.
