I am not an electrical engineer. I have been given a project that has 2 ATEX approved solenoids connected to an ATEX approved junction box with a termial strip. The solenoids are connected to the juction box with ATEX approved fittings. I have to connect the solenoid terminals to the terminal strip in the junction box. With this being totally enclosed and all ATEX approved components DO I NEED ATEX APPROVED STRANDED WIRE TO CONNECT THE SOLENOIDS TO THE TERMINAL STRIP?

Do I need ATEX wire to connect the earth grounds?

To my knowledge, there is no such thing as ATEX approved wiring. But the ATEX certificate for the system as a whole (i.e. whatever control panel you are building) may have conditions / requirements regarding the type of cable to use, e.g. armouring, sheath material, etc.

The type of cable can also depend on the client requirements.
In my experience the glands needed should be Hawke 501/453 type, they are ATEX certified.
And the type of cable could be for example... Draka 2 core 1.5mm fire resistant black sheath cable.

Those are just one specific type of Hawke gland, for SWA cable. There are other Hawke types for other types of cable, for example for non-armoured cables or for lead-sheathed types. And then there are complete ranges of glands from other manufacturers which have equivalent certification. Perhaps there is scope for your experience to be broadened...?
