Doug Self wrote some excellent articles in the now-defunct Electronics & Wireless World magazine back in the early 90's, much of which is reproduced in a number of books published. In my opinion his analysis was very good, particularly a design series on Class B amplifiers where he looked at the underlying distortion mechanisms and how they can be optimised by careful design.

Hey Keith, maybe the ARRL Handbook had an audio amp section at one time, but I just pulled out my 2006 version of that book and didn't find one. There's a section on RF amplifiers, but even before I got older, my hearing range didn't extend quite that far.
I wonder if they dropped the audio amp section since it's so easy to find class AB audio amps on a chip, and there are fewer and fewer people doing discrete designs. One site I read is at
