First of all - hello to everyone! I am not an engineer, rather a professional autobody painter that has a great interest in custom a/c systems and stumbled upon this thread -thread108-138387

I had a question I was hoping someone hear could answer. Suppose I took the whole a/c system out of a 2003 for crown victoria and wanted to drive the compressor with a briggs and stratton type small engine - how large of an engine would it realistically take to turn the scroll type compressor from the crown vic with a full load on it?

Hopefully someone here has a thought on this.
Thanks,
Mike

8 hp at 6000 rpm. If you don't like that gear it up.

Now, when you state 8 hp at 6000 rpm - is that 6000 compressor rpm or engine rpm?

If the compressor where to be ran at a constant speed, what would that rpm be?

Thanks for the fast reply!
Mike

6000 compressor rpm. Half that at 3000 rpm, and so on.
