Coming from inventor, i am used to coordinate system of the first part in the assembly with align with the coordinate system of the assembly. Is there a way to force this in solidworks (2008)? It does not seem to be doing this by default. It is not actually apparently how it is determining the fixed placement of the first part.

Thanks for the help.

If you drag-n-drop your part onto the origin in the feature tree of the assembly then it will automatically be fixed to the origin. Alternately, if you do File->Insert Component and then just hit the checkmark in the property manager it will default to fixed at the origin.

arlenn,

Just to expand on handleman's correct response, do not click in the graphics window when placing the part, just hit only the checkmark at the top of the property manager. (when I was a newby it took me a while to figure this out)
