any way to keep "Auto Calc" off until you manually turn it back on?

Auto-Calc is automatically re-enabled if you open a new report window, since the window cannot be displayed without current results.

But if the window is already open, the Auto-Calc will stay off until you re-enable it, open a new window, or change the calculation settings.

but sometimes i like to open a new report window to see the results of a change, then go back to making more changes in the model without autocalc on... may i request the option of leaving it off so that calcs occur only when opening a new report window (or i click the cals settings button and press "OK")... [wink] i seem to recall that autocalc stayed off in older versions, even when the old raindrop button was clicked.

Auto-calc operates in the exact manner you requested: It stays off when editing a node, and is enabled only when opening a new report window or changing the calculation settings. It has always worked this way.

If you want to open a report, and then edit without recalculating, you will need to turn it off manually. I don't see any way the software could anticipate this behavior.

The key issue is that the model must be updated in order to open a report window, and this requires that Auto-calc be re-enabled.

aah i see - i didn't realize the toggle needed to be re-enabled to update the model. i was hoping that the model could be updated when making the calc begin, but the auto calc could stay toggled off. in other words, have hcad make the calculations only when requested by the user. for some reason i thought i recalled that the toggle stayed off in previous versions, so that cals were done only when requested.

Autocalc must be on in order to perform any routing calculations, therefore it is automatically re-enabled when opening a new report window or changing the calculation settings. It has always worked this way.

The other way to prevent automatic recalculations is simply to close all the report windows.
