Auto Constrain an Assembly

I have a large assembly, which I have imported into Tc as a true product structure. Due to the origins of the data (long story) none of the parts have been constrained with either mating conditions or assembly constraints, but they are positioned correctly in the correct 3D space

Today’s questions is:- is it possible to auto constrain an assembly? (immediate child parts) I’m not to bothered about it using the exact correct type of constraint, I just need it constrained (but not using fixed)

Using NX6

Any ideas?

You could 'Fix' one component and then 'Bond' all the rest to that one component. The effect would be that all parts are 'constrained' to each other.

Now if you were willing to use 'Fixed' constraints, I've attached an NX Open program (both as an executable .dll and as a .vb file) which will go through your assembly and apply a 'Fixed' constraint on all Components which are currently unconstrained. If you download the file, change the file extension from .zipper to .zip before attempting to open.

"Bond"?

(mb3 on the top assembly, "select assembly". "create constraint")

Optionally add one fix constraint to any component (to prevent the bonded collection from moving)

they are positioned correctly in the correct 3D space
Is there any reason to add constraints? (perhaps some simulation that uses them) They aren't going anywhere unless you move them, unconstrained assemblies are perfectly usable in most circumstances.
 
Cheers Chaps i'll have a go with your suggestions.

The reason i need to constrain the assembly is that i need to a demo with some customer data as show the power of PLM when altering components in a concurrent design cycle and show how the assembly will update. I am using lots of other functionality with volume space requiremnts, RDV, GT&T, viz etc. etc.

but unfortunatly, for me!!! they wanted the demo on thier data with did not originate in PLM and has been translated.
