Auto-correct beam element nodes with surface elements

Hello everyone,

I want to mesh a stiffened plate with plate as surface elements and stiffeners as beam elements. The surfaces are split at location of stiffeners. However, the beams are not split at surface intersection locations. I would like to know if there is any auto-correct feature in FEMAP so that the nodes at beams are generated as per node locations on surface elements. Since I have a very big model of a ship, it will be helpful if I can find some quick way to mesh it with minimum possibilities of errors.

I have attached the file and can be downloaded from the following link for a better understanding of my problem.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Regards

Hi,

I did not open your attached file yet, but I suggest to try the Mesh / Mesh control / custom along curves / select Matching nodes. To select nodes on the surfaces you can use the method / on curve. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I tried doing it, but it doesn't work well with auto-correcting the nodes of beam elements.

Well, I looked at your model and it seems that there are coincident nodes that need to be merged between each two beam elements. That's why it does not work well...
Create a group with only beam elements. Go to tools / check / coincident nodes / select all the nodes on beam elements and click OK.
(you can also delete them as you will remesh curves to match surfaces)

Then create a group with only plate elements and curves (not beam elements). Active the group and select automatic add. Set your view to an orthogonal view (XZ)
Go to mesh / mesh control / custom size along curve / select one curve. click ok then this window should appears :

getfile.aspx

Select Match Mesh and then select nodes on plate elements which should match beam elements. Click Ok and then redo the same for the other curves (click previous when you have to select nodes as they are at the same Y location...
