Auto Explosion without assembly constraint

I know that auto explosion work with assembly contraint but is it possible to create a sample vb to do the following ?
- ask the user to select
- some components in a specific order
- select an axis
- ask the user to type a distance value
- have each component shifted by the same value

Does anybody have already done this ?
