Hi,

I've built a family of parts model, and I'm referencing the model parameters in a drawing so that as the model changes the drawing automatically updates all sizes. In this way I can use one model to create different drawings 'on the fly'. It's a massive time saving.

But: Sometimes the created model is big, sometimes it's small, but the scale on the IDW is fixed. Is there a way of getting my drawing to automatically change the scale to best fit the page?

To the best of my knowledge, Inventor does not have an option to "auto-scale" veiws. If it did, this would cause much wailing and gnashing of teeth for those of us that don't want our drawings to suddenly change scale just because I made a part a little longer.

On the otherhand, Inventor does auto-scale when a base veiw is created. There may be a way to write a VBA program to exploit this. Maybe something like: if part is XXXin or greater, veiw scale equals XXX. I don't do enough programming to be of more help but I'm sure someone can tell you if it is possible or not.

how can i get a idw file from inventor 5.3 to a autocad 2000 lite dwg. without loosing lines.

The simple answer is, you don't. This was fixed to some extent in later versions of Inventor but you are going to loose some data. Any reason you replied to this post and didn't just start a thread of your own? You might get a better responce if you start your own thread.

The easiest way to maintain a family drawing at optimal scale is to use A,B,C dimensions referring to a dimension table. In this way you also have the overview of all family members within just 1 document.

Have used this system in Unigraphics NX. Not yet in IV.

Unigraphics NX4,NX3,NX2,R17
Inventor 10,9,8,7
Solid Edge 10,9,8
Solid Works 2000,98
Mechanical Desktop 4,3
Autocad 2004DX,2000,R14, R12

That's what we do at the moment, but then there is no point in having a factory of parts. Or even a CAD model come to that!

Also a huge table of dimensions (it's over two pages) is unweildy, and leads to interpretation error.

When A,B,C is not an option anymore let a trainee do all the rescaling. Every day 2 hours of rescaling and in one week the job is done. If you are the trainee then I wish you good luck :)
