AutoCad and Inventor imports to Revit 1

I have been asked to provide models of our company's devices in a Revit-compatible format (we make piping system components, FWIW). From the Autodesk website, it would appear that 3d solid model files (e.g. Inventor .ipt files, or .step "dumb solid" exports from Inventor) should import "just fine" into Revit. I've had users of the BIM system state that it ain't so, however. Would appreciate feedback from current Revit users.

Secondly, I am also intending to support our sales staff with 2D CAD geometry in .dxf format, under the assumption that some users may prefer it, is Revit capable of importing .dxf files, and are they of any use to the typical mech-E piping designer?

The forum has only been here a day and a half so yes, you are the first poster. I guess the question is, what software are you currently using? Having used Revit for all of about an hour, I can't really do better than Google on this issue other than to say that Revit should import IFC files. I have heard anecdotes that Revit MEP sucks compared to Revit Structure/Revit Architecture.

Sorry Francesca, should have stated: we currently run both AutoCad and Autodesk Inventor, both version 2010.
