We've been having a recurring problem on one of our workstations, can't seem to solve it.

Running Acad LT 2000, on NT4.

When he has two sessions open, and copyclips from one to the other, then shuts the first one down, it looks like it closes, but in Task Manager, the processor is pinned at 100%, acad.exe is still shown as running, under processes. Even if the other Acad is shut down, the original process continues, at max cpu usage. Only way to kill it is "end process"

Any ideas?

First of all, it sounds like a mem problem. How many processes do you have running, and how much mem is on the machine?

Second Why are you running two sessions of Autocad Lt? As of release 2000 Autocad has MDI ( Multiple document interface) that allows you to open several drawings at one time iside the same session of Autocad.

Ok, one at a time....

Not sure of the number of processes running, his machine is locked, and he's nowhere to be found... will get back to you on that one....

256 meg on the machine. We've got other stations, running more programs, on 256mb, and haven't ever had that happen on them.

And last, but not least...... for some people here, we tend to discourage running Acad with MDI. As awful as it is to say, this is due to the fact that a couple people have been known to open 14 or 15 drawings at once, minimize them when they're done, forget they are there, lock their machine, and leave for the day. Leaves everyone else that actually has to update the drawings SOL until they come in tomorrow. As they aren't really computer literate, we set them up to "single drawing compatability mode" so their startbar would start to fill up, and they'd shut drawings down to empty it. When it only had one session of Acad, they'd leave it.

Gee, makes me sound like a heel. But, ya gotta do.....

As I understand it, AutoCAD does not like to run multiple sessions any longer. Something about attempting to grab available memory, then not releasing it. I think I read about it on one of ADesk's Support boards, but I haven't been able to scratch it up today.
