First set your ACAD colors so that background is white rather than default of black. Then pick "Select All" from the ACAD "Edit" menu. Pick "Copy" from the ACAD "Edit" menu. Go to Word and pick "Paste" from the "Edit" menu and there you are. You can then use Word drawing tools to crop and resize the image as needed.

Thanks Begger but the quality was pretty bad - however it lead me to an answer - plot to MS office Image writer, open the image, save as .tif and insert into word - massiv word file but can reduce quality with size to suit. Cheers.

My approach is to use Adobe Acrobat 6.0 professional or some other drawing conversion program to convert ACAD drawing into BMP, TIFF, or JPEG file. MS-word loves these file formats. The problem with the clipboards for both ACAD and MS-Word is drawing image is stored in different parts in computer memory. I have tried in the past using save screen and importing into graphics program like paint. A lot of times, the image becomes disorted. I have better luck putting MS-Word document into ACAD.

Hope this helps,

John

Like said above, WMF is the most consistent. We use an app called BetterWMF and get great results.

Quality might be increased by selecting 'paste special' rather than just 'paste' it will give you more options as to the type of file the 'pasted' file will be stored as. (clear as mud, right?)

i just want to add that everytime i want to paste a drawing, or part of it, in a word document, i can feel my blood boiling ;-)
I mean, all these steps (white background, select, copy, paste, edit in word etc etc..).

You'd think that someone would come up with a better way, no?

Regarding Pipeline's comment, "You'd think that someone would come up with a better way, no?"

First, some need a colored background, for instance, to add an AutoCAD logo to a colored CD label, and match the background. So that choice is a GOOD thing.
Second, to zoom extents, select a, Ctrl-C, then open Word, start a New document, and hit Ctrl-V took me exactly 20 seconds, and I muffed one part, and had to redo one step. (I never use the Word picture editor -- there is usually no need.)

This is lightning fast compared to anything else we do on computers (involving 2 separate programs)
