Is there a way you can insert a revision symbol with text that can automatically link to the current revisiion of the drawing ie DB_PART_REV?

Please insert folowing text.
<W@DB_PART_REV>

Scheme is <W@Atribute_name>

Thank you Siwy. I had already determined that, but because it was such a manual process, I was hoping there was a simpler/more automated way of doing this. I just created a journal file to do it.

If you are using teamcenter the file revision attribute should be accessible. I don't know what it is off the top of my head I'm afraid. If you are using Versioning rules and the version is part of the filename then you should also be able to access that information I am fairly sure there is a system attribute for the version part of the filename, under a system $ value, something like $part_name_version or something. I'm afraid you'd need to look it up.

If you have not otherwise some system or method of telling the program what revision you're using them manually assigning the value to an attribute will be the best way.

Hudson,

we do have TeamCentre (or rather NX Manager) but as we haven't had any training on it yet, we are still working in native.

The workaround I found (creating a journal file to add the symbol at the current revision) seemed to work ok, but I have found that I can now not delete that symbol. I have tried pressing the delete key, selecting delete from the right-click menu, and cut from the right-click menu but none of these method seems to work.

Can anyone shed some light on this at all?

Can you select it to do an info object? If so look for any other objects, expressions or attributes that it may be tied into, and see if you can't first delete those in order to then be able to delete the offending symbol.

Other option, make sure that is not inside a view on the face of the drawing. Try deleting views to see if the symbol goes with one of them, if necessary delete the sheet. I expect that you know to either save or be prepared to accept the risk that you'll be able to undo whatever you don't really want to delete.

Maybe once you get that sorted out you ought to share the macro with the forum. Some of the wiser minds may be able to debug whatever ails it. Sounds like don't use that journal in the meantime.

Yes, I can select it to do an info object. It is linked to the DB_PART_REV attribute using <W@DB_PART_REV>. If I was to create this revision symbol manually, I have no trouble deleting it. I only have trouble with it when I insert it using the journal file.

It is not located inside a drawing view, as the journal file creates the symbol at 0,0,0.

I have attached a copy for anyone to look at & see if they can spot anything I've done wrong.

I just thought I'd create a macro to insert a revision symbol with a dumb piece of text in it. Funnily enough, I can delete this symbol if need be.

Please feel free to use this if you would like. It inserts a revision symbol (rev A) at 0,0,0.

Thanks Ross,

I'll be able to have a look at it and get back to you by this time tomorrow.

That is a neat curiosity I wonder why it happens. I certainly couldn't find a way to delete it completely from the model. I can create a situation where it is buried where is can't be got to by deleting the sheet but there is still that one object in the file.

Thankfully it is a moot point since you fixed the Journal File.

Best regards
