Hi,

I have a question about sprinkler installation in automatic storage rack.

In this racks are materials class I-IV in plastic containers. Height of storage is 9,0m, height of warehouse - 10,7m.

This are racks this type:

The distance beetween 2 load spaces is 30 to 60cm.

According to which point of NFPA13 we should protect this racks?

Now there is no celing protection.

Thank you :)

Hi,

But in attachment I send a picture of this racks. There are no solid shelves but materials class I-IV are in plastic boxes. Between individual plastic boxes there are flue spaces. Is protection according to table 16.3.3.1 enought?

Thanks a lot

I missed the picture, you would need to use

Table 17.3.3.1 ESFR Protection of Rack Storage Without Solid Shelves of Plastics Commodities Stored Over 25 ft (7.6 m) in Height

Look at the section for Exposed unexpanded

17.3.3.1.1 ESFR protection as defined shall not apply to the
following:
(1) Rack storage involving solid shelves
(2) Rack storage involving combustible, open-top cartons or
containers

No open top containers or solid shelving is permitted as noted above. If you have any one of these ESFR is not permitted. All other options include in-rack sprinklers which will not work with movable racks.

Thanks a lot.

What schema of in-rack sprinkler protection I need for this racks. The racks are no-movable. Only load automat is movable.

If it will be needed the Client will remove load from some load space. And there we will install the in-rack sprinkler system. But with which figure?

In-rack sprinkler design options are as follows;

Area Density Sprinkler Design

17.3.1.4 For Group A plastic commodities that are exposed
and unexpanded, encapsulated or unencapsulated, that are
permitted to be protected in accordance with one of the inrack
options of 17.3.4.1.3, the ceiling sprinkler water demand
in terms of density and area of operation shall be selected
from Table 17.3.1.1.

Discharge Criteria for Single-, Double-, and Multiple-Row
Racks of Plastics Commodities with Storage Over 25 ft (7.6
m) in Height

Stored Over 25 ft (7.6 m) in Height.
