Hi all

At the company i work we construct mold & die tools for toys, which of course uses ejectors.
At the moment we have a standard palette with all of our standard ejectors. Each ejector have a "subtract solid" on a reference set, which is linked into the parts needed, ex cavity insert, and ejecting plate.

This is a very manual way of work, where the ejector is placed in the main assembly, subtract solid linked into the individual parts and then subtracted.

And NOW to the point:) We are constantly trying to improve our processes, and therefore we have taken a look on solid works and their smart components to get some inspiration.

Smart components has the possibility to construct a ejector, with a extra feature, a subtract, that gets active when the ejector part is placed in the main assembly. You place the ejector on a point or a sheet, and then the subtract solid automatically subtracts from the assembly components.

Is there any possibility in NX that would allow us to do this?

At the moment we have taken a look on hole series. The attached file shows a picture of the problem we have with hole series. We can only get the feature to make holes like them on the left but we need a extra parameter, so we get holes like the ones on the right.

We are also using Reuse library, but im not aware of any functionality like smart components.

I look forward to hearing from you.

hi Steffen,
have you looked at the pocket function in the reuse librayr toolbar?

I´m going to take a better look into Mold Wizard and reuse.

Thanks

Hi Steffen,
it seems that you know more about SolidWorks than NX...
You should take a serious look at Moldwizard, it does automate a lot of the things that you now have to do manually.
For example the ejectorpin cavities.
Moldwizard has had the "smart models" functionality for maybe 10 years while it was added to the "general reusable components" in one of the later releases of NX.

Tomas
