Dear Experts,

A multi story building with 45 floor wherein a technical floor at 22nd floor. As per the specified requirement wanted to keep 2 electric (ie, 1 duty & 1 standby) + 1 jockey pump. Since two electric pumps, Automatic Transfer Switch is required.

The query is : whether both the pumps (ie, 1 duty & 1 standby) required to be provided Automatic Transfer Switch or it is required for only one pump?

Project location: UAE.

Appreciate your thoughts and comments on this.

What does the UAE code prescribe? I'm unsure why the 22nd floor is relevant to this question. Is this a very tall building as described in NFPA 20?

22nd floor is irrelevant, It is a very tall building as per NFPA 20, and super high rise building as per UAE FC.
UAE fire code prescribe as follows:

A listed ATS is required for each fire pump. If two electric fire pumps are specified, item 8 section ii conflicts with NFPA 20 because the ATS must be an integral element of the fire pump controller, and it's a really bad idea to do so because of National Electrical Code Article 695. However, this is a UAE regulation so they may want something different.

I didn't find any conflict with NFPA 20.
As per NFPA 20, ed 2019 : ATS shall be either listed combination of fire pump controller and power transfer switch / individually listed fire pump controller and transfer switch.

I am not familiar with NEC. Is there any clause which make conflict with UAE regulation. Kindly share.

Any input on this thread much appreciated. Thank you.
