I was wondering if there is a way to automatically measure and dimension a complex chain, similiar to how the label line tool (found in the misc. dimension toolbar) works. It would kind of be like a combination of the measure length tool and the label line tool, except I wouldn't need the angle or bearing like the label line tool gives. I also would not need any extension lines or dimension lines, just the length. Maybe somebody has created a macro that can do this. Any help would be appreciated.

I can tell you that there is no way within the V7 program to automatically dimension a smartline. This, I think, is because there is no tool for dimensioning arc lengths either. (Which is a real pain)

I am sure someone must have created a macro however... as it is a simple combination of offsetting a line from the original and putting some arrowheads on it... in conjunction with the measure along element command...

It really doesn't take long to do it manually. Good Luck

H8Red, there is a tool for dimensioning arc lengths. Go to tools/dimensioning/angular. Once you are there, click on the "dimensioning arc size" icon, about the 6th one over.
