Hi,

I have a large number of similar parts to generate. They are all identical except for one dimension.

The data for the dimension in question is generated elsewhere but isn't that complicated, just a few lines of code really.

I know that its possible to record macros in SolidWorks & have recorded one but my object orientated programing skills are naive but not missing completely.

I like to set SW up so that I can generate the parts & dimensions automatically rather than one at a time.

Is this possible?

Thanks

Nic

This sounds like a good candidate for the use of configurations and design tables. Particularly if you can generate the key value in excel.

Try Excel based design tables driving dimension configurations.

Oh yes!!! Thanks very much. What a great feature!

Is there a way of automatically saving the individual instances separately with out the attached design table?

Ok the new issue is when I want to use different configurations of the same part in an assembly. Is this possible?

Yes. A DT created in the assy can be used to control the configuration displayed for each instance of a part.

Yes. Right click on any single part in an assembly and select Properties. From there you can select the configuration of that individual part to be shown. You can also create configurations of your assembly, and then declare the configurations of individual parts to be shown in that assembly configuration. Its all very flexible and very useful for explaining your concepts to non-engineers.

Thanks all. I rarely find this but this piece of software just gets better & better!
