I'm not sure where to look to do this. I have a drawing that is getting quite large, and it seems that about every minute it starts to autosave. It takes a while and slows everything down. I would like to change the time to every 15 minutes or so, but cannot find anything under system or document options that allows this. Eventually I will get more ram so maybe the problem will go away.

Thanks

In SW2004 ... Tools > Options > System options > Backups. Frequency is set by number of "changes" not actual time lapse.

Also keep in mind that a change must cause a rebuild to be counted in # of changes for autosave.

For example:
Edit sketch
Make 15 changes to sketch
Exit sketch

That's ONE change (as far as autosave is concerned)

Possibly it is different between parts and drawings? Have not had a problem in the model, but in the drawing almost anything I do is triggering an autosave. Mostly I have been adding reference dimensions and changing the color of some lines. I guess I could just change the number from 15 to 30 or more and then change it back for the next project.

You can also work on being diligent in when/how you save your documents and turn off the autosave feature. You might be ahead in time even if you lose some edits once in a while.

I agree with Theophilus ... switch the Autosave function off ... see if that makes a difference. If it does, leave it off & train yourself to do frequent manual saves.

Also, the backup folder can very quickly grow to a huge size if you do not frequently clean it out.

I agree. I prefer to manually save, even after being burned a few times. Thanks for the replies.

I have been burned couple times. I always manually save.

Remember to clear out your autosave folder once in a while if it's still on--I was at a client's place today and found that most of his system drive was taken up by autosaved documents as old as 2002! I'll bet he didn't even know about this folder, but that's way too much!

One thing we have done is crate a dos batch file to delete all the solidworks files in the backup directory and put the file on everyones desk top. This seems to reminde everyone to delete the files and with one click the process is done. The easeir you make it for someone the more they will use it kind of analagy if you will.

Autosave does not work when a file is in rollback. Perhaps you can roll back a file to temporarily disable Autosave when your system is limping
