Recently on Internet forum started discussion about renewable energy sources and as usual more emotional than professional arguments were used. For example nobody had any information regarding average cost of winding generators compared with conventional ones. Sorry to say, I hadn't it too.
Some 25 years ago in the University they gave us some figure for average cost of thermal power station about 1000-1500 USD per kW - this was price for East Europe. Probably now it is higher, but not so much. Could somebody give me some similar figure per kW for an average windfarm. I know they differ, I need just the price range - let say 2000 or 5000 or 10000 USD?

Thank you, Marmite, links are very interesting. Just to now I didn'd pay much attention to windfarms, although some years ago I made some small commissioning work on relay protections of one in Spain. But I was impressed mostly by spectacular views than to the technology :)

In Europe around 1 million euros/MW. That was about three years ago, so may be a little less now.

Major effects on cost are the proximity to a decent power supply line (or the costs of putting in a new HV line), the cost of that alone can be prohibitive.
