AWWA D110/D115 Tanks

Working on a project that has performance specifications for both D110 and D115 specs. Our D115 spec language requires bonded tendons throughout. The D115 tank guy doesn't like this requirement because it adds cost to their tank. I understand their consternation, but I really don't know if we are being too conservative.

It's a completely buried tank FWIW.

Anyone have an opinion or experience on this subject?

I have some insight for the containment bund walls of cryogenic tanks. The scope of AWWA D110 is wire and strand wound circular prestressed concrete tanks and the scope of AWWA D1I5 is circular prestressed concrete tanks with circumferential tendons.

The bonded or non -bonded tendons can be alternatives for circumferential tendons of AWWA D115 tanks and vertical tendons of of both D110 and D115 .

AFAIK , the tendons can be grouted or not grouted so remain non-bonded. Nowadays it is common practice to use bonded type and this has the advantage that if failure of a strand occurs , total prestressing load will not be lost since the grout will transfer the load to the adjacent strands.

My vote would be bonded tendons.

Completely buried tanks? Completely buried tanks are no longer acceptable if this is potable water. Refer to the ten states standards.

The problem is that one can't tell if the tank is leaking if it is buried.
