I need to solve a 42" shell 'split' conection in a pressure vessel using two 42" AWWA C207-1 flanges.
To do an evaluation of stresses I'm looking for the steel of this flanges.
This PV will have 30 psi of internal pressure design.
Can anybody inform to me which is the steel of this flanges, to do the calculation?

Thank you in advance.

The standard specifies properties and then indicates that A36 of A516-60/70 will meet those properties if the flanges are cut from plate. Presumably, other steels would as well. Check with your supplier.

Check to see if the flanges would have whatever data reports you'd need for the work. Production of AWWA flanges doesn't necessarily require ASME stamps, etc.

mariovalenti, if you are using these in Sec VIII, Div 1, you will most likely have to treat them as Appendix 2 flanges as the AWWA standard is not recognized by UG-44.

If you go this route, you might want to pay careful attention to the Apx 2 limitations on plate flanges.

Regards,

Mike
