What is the difference between an API vs ANSI pump?? what criterias applies in order to select a pump for a specific service like "oily water" ???

API are usually speced for refineries and hazardous areas requiring safe operation - ANSI you can use where ever you like. You haven't specified where the insatllation is but if it's just oily water in a non hazardous area use ANSI.

This is a question that has been asked many, many times. Research other posts on this subject and you will find a wealth of information.

Both Artisi and BigInch have given you good advice given the very limited information you provided. ANSI would be less expensive to purchase and install. API can be more reliable in high temperature, high speed, and hazardous services. But, consider the hazard carefully. Our sour water systems, in an oil refinery can be saturated with H2S. We are not allowed to work on these pumps without supplied fresh air. In a refinery sour water application with enough H2S to qualify as immediately dangerous to life and health, I would probably choose API. In a sour water application with much lower hazard and relatively low temperature, I would strongly consider ANSI. If you could provide more details about your application, we could provide more specific replies.

Good morning, I read your advices (very precise and accurated) and less I can say is thank you.

My question comes because we're working on a project for a treatment of oil production water, so this water comes with traces of oil, then we want to treat it with some equipments like an IGF and a shell-nut filter (one goes before another) we need to set a pump for this water after the IGF and before the shell-nut. The location is on a tank farm, the water is environment temp and comes from a tank at a very low pressure, the pump we need is for carry this water to a header downstream after the treatment.

Based on the additional information, I would feel comfortable with an ANSI pump in this application.
