Hey everyone,

My purchasing dept is working on getting the new 2013 ed of B16.5 that was released at the end of April, but I was hoping if someone already has a copy they could help me out really quickly.

Could someone tell me if there have been any changes to the forging spec for Group 3.11 materials? (2009 ed is A479 Gr. N08904). I'm just curious to see if A182 has made it in there.

Thank you!
Marty

Thanks XL83NL!

So no big change, this has me very confused.

I took a look at ASME IIA at SA-479, and I can't find any reference to N08904 (I don't have the ASTM specs, but ASME states that this spec is identical).

Can anyone make sense of this?

Thank you!
Marty

B16.5 lists ASTM A materials, ASME II-A lists ASME SA materials (ASTM adopted by ASME materials) - maybe that causes the problem?

XL83NL,

Yeah, I understand about the difference between A and SA, unfortunately I don't have the ASTM specs handy. The ASME II-A version however states that it is identical to the ASTM apec except for some editorial details.

Another issue with this reference from B16.5 though is that A479 isn't even a forging spec, it is for bars and shapes.

I would think that A-182 would be the more applicable specification. I've sent a question to the B16.5 committee asking this question, we'll see what they come up with.

Thanks,
Marty
