Does table 314.2.1 apply to my situation below?

I changed companies (same work, new face), and this table just came to light.

The company builds low pressure, low volume natural gas equipment (<2" NPT, under 5 PSIG) for use in industrial factories. Per table above it seems we need to use schedule 80 piping. In doing this for 20 years I have never seen anyone use schedule 80 piping (me, or the competition).

Am I improperly interpreting the application of this table? The building piping feeding my equipment is always schedule 40. Should I be using B31.9 instead?

Table 314.2.1 would apply to threaded pipe if B31.3 were applicable to the design/construction of the parts. Assuming that the parts are going into commercial or residential structures, B31.9 or IBC or other Jurisdictional design construction Code would appear to be the more reasonable to employ.
