I have a dilema here, In the past I have always backfilled my walls without using top restraints on the walls, and so far have neve had a problem, but I want to stress that great care was taken to monitor the wall on backfill, to make sure no bowing or cracking was hapening. Here is my dilema, Im working with a PM who was quite certain he wanted the floor on the building first, before backfill, didnt happen. Time schedule for job would not allow for us to wait on framers, etc. Walls are 8" thick and 10' tall on 20"x10" footings, backfill consisted of 36" of 1 1/2" drain rock topped with class A/B screened ballast placed and compacted in lifts of 18" to a depth of 8' total.
Again I want to stress that great care was taken on monitoring the wall on backfill, we had no movement. I would encourage feedback please.
