Hello
Dear all,
one of our friends have RO plant and raw water is ground water bur there is bad odor coming from the raw water
now am thinking that maybe we need to install a degasifier
Maybe am gonna visit the site there so what do you think? and what kind of data do you advice me to collect to decide which solution is better?
thanks in advance

"Bad odour" is a bit vague, but quite often associated with H2S or similar.

Might be better off asking in the water treatment and distribution forum.

But take water sample from as deep as you can if it's a well and pressurise it if possible so that any gas is trapped in the sample.

Or as good a sample as you can.

A complete water analysis is necessary. One would suspect hydrogen sulfide.

Though high levels of just about any organic and give water a bad smell, especially if there is high levels of Fe and Mn.
There are sample bottles meant for taking pressurized samples. You flow water through them but the drain valve is small enough to keep the contents of the bottle nearly at delivery pressure. You flow through them for a couple of minuets to flush them well and then close the outlet and then the inlet. In the lab these are connected and the gases removed by inert gas and then analyzed. But yes, you need a very through water analysis if you are going to actually solve this situation.

You need to find out if this all of the time or seasonal or just recently? It is possible that they are drawing contaminates if they have increased the draw down on the well.

Hi,
Charcoal or activated carbon could be an option to remove the "bad "smell of the raw water .
Better to get an analysis of the water to support the option .

If the RO system is operating satisfactorily and removing the odor, there is no need to be concerned with the raw water odor.

There should be no organics in well water.

Adding a degasifier may make the situation worse as the system may pick up suspended matter that would have to be removed.

But do make sure that is not something that can foul the membranes.

Sound like well contamination. Have you considered chlorine shocking it?
