Hi all,

Referring to TEMA table CB-4.41, it mentions that "end spaces between tubesheet and baffles are not a consideration"

I am somewhat confused with a statement that looks pretty straightforward and self explanatory. In my case, there is a vertical heat exchanger (BEU) type having an ID of 720 mm. The tube length (Straight) is 1067 mm. If we provide just one baffle at the center of this tube span in order to avoid possibility of flow induced vibrations, how to select the thickness of this baffle?? Since half the unsupported tube span will be between tubesheet and baffle (which the mentioned table of TEMA does not consider).

vessexst, the table was not written with your specific configuration in mind. I'd go by the lesser of the two spaces, assuming your one baffle is more or less centered. Looks like 1/4" (6.4) to me.

Don't make it too hard :)

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
