Hi,

I am using a ball screw to operate gate valve stem, wherein the ball screw nut remains stationary and can be rotated via handwheel. The stem moves up and down on handwheel rotation. Please find the picture attached. How to determine the maximum torque and other parameters to ensure the ball screw can withstand the loading conditions. The force due to pressure acting on the stem considering friction factors = 20000 lbf.

Appreciate your help.Thanks

Hello,

Check with ball screw/lead screw manufacturers such as Nook. They have design guides that with calculations for determining required torque based on axial force requirements.
