I need some help regarding the design of CWA ballasts.
There are different tappings on the primary of the ballasts e.g.120 V,230 V,277 V etc.
On the secondary the HPS lamp is connected via a capacitor.
B'cos of current limiting an insulation fault in the secondary coil results in a slow build up of heat in the coil with little rise in current. The heating can cause the insulating mateerial to ignite.
Is there any practical way to implement electrical fuse in the primary in a cost effective way to protect the ballast from overheating/igniting the insulating material.
Choosing a suitable trip temperature and thermally coupling the device to the coil is a difficult design problem and will take along time to come to a arrive at a conclusion.
