We want to have a tracer in one of our refractory materials (raw steel producer) so that we can better identify if this piece of refractory is the cause of some exogenous inclusions. Our supplier suggested ZrO2 or BaO, we already use ZrO2 for a different piece, so I would like to try BaO.
2 questions:
(1) any deterioration of refractory properties with low levels (maybe a few percent) of BaO added?
(2) I notice that Ba and Ti have two nearly overlapping peaks on EDS - has anyone used BaO in their refractories? Do the 3rd and 4th peaks show up (which would differentiate it from Ti)?
