Hi all!

I'm trying to find out if the ASME B31.3 code allows for the use of a barbed hose fitting (for a rubber hose that is qualified to B31.3), see attached screenshot. Table 326.1 lists SAE J514 (Hydraulic Tube Fittings), but without buying the standard, I'm trying to find out if it has pressure rating tables for 1" barbed hose fittings. The old standard for hydraulic tube fittings is SAE J926. Thanks!

ages ago they were allowed for gas powered heaters, but no more. So the pressure rating is less than 0 PSI

Neither of those standards have anything to do with barbed hose fittings. I don't know of any standard that does.

The closest thing to a pressure rated barbed fitting is going to be Parker Push Lok as the hose and fitting are designed to work together.

Thanks all for the responses! Sounds like I need to do an unlisted component evaluation and perhaps specify different hose end connections that can hold pressure better.

Take a look at
thread378-363176

In the attachment Parker states All hose fittings used with hoses listed under SAE J517 standard. I do not think ASME maintains a standard for hose barbs.

Hose barbs with properly installed crimps (or in some cases OD nuts) will not fail before the hose. It is prudent to specify hose assemblies to be pressure tested at the manufacturing shop.

Crimped fittings and OD nuts don't require pressure testing. Measurement of the OD of the crimp is sufficient to verify quality the assembly. This is usually performed with a go no-go gauge. For OD nuts a mark on the hose to verify that it does not get pushed out during assembly is sufficient for QC.

Wouldn't call either of these hose on barb assemblies. I believe OP is referring to field installed hose with clamps.
