Have any of you used a barcode scanner to bring a dataset into DeltaV?

I have not purchased anything, yet. I am waiting to see what is a best fit for the application.

Some data that will help:

Hard wired fixed scanner
Bin will be places in front of scanner with barcode lable in the same place everytime
Sensing distance should not be more than 4-6 inches
Dataset needs to be communicated into Emmerson's DeltaV for lot number comparison.

Thanks guys!

Barcode data length? < deltaV serial interface data set?
Does the deltav serial interface support your barcode reader interface? I see a couple of interface cards that deltav does sell.

Have you given a sample of the bar code to the barcode reader manufacturer to make sure that they can read your barcode and to spec out the correct equipment? Also use your barcode reader manufacture to configure the scanner for you. I can not count the amount of time wasted on configuring a scanner.

Best barcode to typically read is 20mil, 1 inch high, most readers will support this. If you want them to read a more narrow barcode mil it will cost you, example 10mil. Type of barcode are you reading?

Use a low capacitance shielded cable for the interface, using cheap cable between the barcode reader and deltav will buy you nothing. Especially if you have motors and vfds around.
