Hello,

we were asked to look into using barites concrete for some shielding walls. I am a bit concerned abut its shrinkage and thermal properties, but cannot find any reference regarding how does it comapre with 'normal' concrete. I would appreciate any information in this respect.

Thanks in advance.

have used Barite aggregate for nuclear shielding and other than it being very heavy, had no difficulty with the use of it. You may want to talk to a concrete supplier.

Due to the potential for segregation during placement, make sure the slump is kept low.

Thanks for helping with this. Shrinkage is important in this case as heavyweight concrete elements are mixed (joined to) standard concrete. Due to the nature of the facility, these elements need to provide containement, so any cracking needs to be minimised.
