Basic ASME Drafting Questions

I've downloaded and done word searches within ASME 14.1, etc... Need to answer the following questions... If you can, please give a reference on where I might find the wording to back up the convention?

1) Assembly drawings - how are multiple instances of a FN noted? 2X, 3X, etc or 2 PL, 3 PL, etc... I seem to recall that whether a feature on a detailed drawing or an instance on an assembly drawing, the notation is the same; 2x, 3x, etc... Which format is correct for an assembly drawing?

2) Detail Views - If that detail A occurs "2" times, do I note SEE DETAIL A on the place where the detail applies and then on the actual detail view it should say 2X DETAIL A (or 2PL DETAIL A)? Is this right?

3) Zone References - If there are multiple places ona sheet where something occurs, what is the proper way to denote that (instead of agonizingly pointing out the 15 or 20 places it may occur)? Is there a shorthand way to say "multiple" in a rev block summary... something like "M"?

1.) Sadly ASME Y14.24 is about all there is specific to Assemblies and there aint the level of detail you're asking about. So I'd extrapolate from other drawing standards and us 2X etc.

PL has 10+ potential meanings per ASME Y14.38 so I'd rather not use it unless necessary, I also try to use the standard symbols rather than text as much as possiblesince you never know when the person reading your drawing may not have English as their primary language.

About the only time I'll spell out PLACES is for a detail or something where within the detail view I already use some "X's" on dimensions, I'll then put PLACES under the detail label to try and distinguish between the number of repetitions within the detail V number of repetitions of the detail - clear as mud right?

I usually only put qty next to FN when the part is used in multiple applications in the assembly. Otherwise I prefer to rely on the qty in the parts list. So if I use 4X M4 screws on two completely different brackets then I'll put a 4X next to a callout for each bracket which will add up to the '8' in the parts list.

2.) As implied above I'll often put "2 PLACES" however technically 2X is probably better, but since you're already using the full text for "Detail" I tend to use the full text for places.

3.) What application - for indicating revision changes?

I have a feeling none of the above was clear, sorry.

I agree with the above. That's the way I do it. "3X" is much more universally understood than "3PL". Also it's fine to place "3X" in the caption of a view. Alternately, you can put "3X" under the view call out (but not also in the view caption!).
