I would like to know how to properly size a robot to a particular application, typically GMAW, resistance welding and material handling.

My specific questions are;

Should the capacity be derated based on extension?

What effect does payload have on speeds and paths?

How often should the mechanical unit be rebuilt?

What utilization should I design to, 75% or higher?

Is there a book that gives indepth information on applying robots?

Of course the answers given may raise more questions.
