I am in a bit if a dilemma trying to figure out what would be a better way to connect the leads to the tabs of a batter pack. The battery pack is 8 Hawker D-Cyclone battery cells rated at 2.5Ah per battery. The two ways that have been recommended are welding or solder. The issue I face is if the battery is short by accident of course wouldn't the solder be better because that connection with melt. If a welded connection is used the damage of shorting the battery pack would be to the battery cells.

Any observation or comment would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Suggestion: It depends which kind of terminals the battery cells have and what they are made off. Some materials are difficult to solder or weld. It may really need an answer from the material engineer or chemist.
However, the solder may melt during a battery short circuit if the protector (fuse or breaker) is not properly set. The short circuit current is very detrimental to lead-acid batteries.
