... if a journey is possible to do by coach or train, this is likely to be far more climate friendly than flying.

“Generally trains and coaches are the lowest carbon means of travel, much lower than flying and cars,” says Milena Buchs, an expert in sustainability, economics and low carbon transitions at the University of Leeds.

The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit's international lead told BBC News that focusing on world leaders taking private jets to COP27 was "missing the point".

"The emissions are negligible compared to the impact of decisions and commitments made at these summits," he said.

"If you want emissions to come down, you want leaders in the room and media, scientists and stakeholders asking the important questions."

And that boys and girls is what they are aiming at, a Russian style oligarchy who can do anything they want, while the rest of us shiver/bake/toil.

Cheers

They're mad because too many plebeians can afford to fly to the Maldives.

COP should be done by teleconferencing; there should be no travel involved. Most Western countries are run by an Oligarchy... not just the Russians... the few select wealthy determining how a country is run.

COP would cease to exist if done by teleconference. Nobody cares. We just watched John Kerry greet Nicolas Maduro. This has nothing to do with environment. It is a celebration for elitists. They are laughing at us. Is social engineering a topic for this forum?

Then it stops... better for the world. Some new entity will likely start up in the future if things get worse... It's a matter of seeing how things play out.

And nice you all figured out what the climate and environment agenda is all about.
Its all been engineered very nicely. And now you see why the science is settled on it all.

Sorry enginesrus... I have no idea of what the future brings. I suspect strongly that it can get really ugly.

Europe is about to get a taste of the ugly. Oddly, it's going to be the cold that causes the most trouble. Have Europeans ever not needed to burn things to survive during the winter?

This, unfortunately, may just be the beginning.

It's sad that some people in Europe my die from hypothermia this winter as a direct result of Justin Trudeau's and the Paris Agreement's climate pipedream. At least we didn't vote for John Kerry, our rep, down here.

Yes, Tug. This is manmade... a lot of the future deaths may be a result of climate change. The end result is the same... needless deaths caused by nations excesses. Turdeau is as ineffective as the other world leaders. The Paris accord had nothing to do with it, and tried to avert problems. It became a political 'circle jerk'. I notice the US has left the Paris accord. [pipe]
Almost reminds me of Texas.

Sounds like you have given up on changing the weather, dik. Wise decision.

Clima conferences are done in luxurious resorts none of them are made in Nigeria, Brasilian Favelas, Somalia, Bombain, South Sudan, Aphganistan, Eritreia and Syria Why? Becouse of global warming, and there is no conditionated air.

Tug -

Is this supposed to be an extra cold winter in Europe? That's leading to prediction of deaths from cold attributable to "global warming". If so, that intellectual exercises needed to process that contradiction is pretty damn intense.

Or, more likely, is it closer to a normal winter and poor people are expected to freeze to death because elite rulers want to reduce global warming by cutting off the fuels needed to keep them warm?

Even more likely, is this a result of the war in the Ukraine and Europe's stance on the subject which means they're not getting the gas they need from Russia? Isn't this something Trump harshly criticized them for a few years ago? Becoming dependent on Putin / Russia and his pipeline. Couldn't they see as a decent possibility as a lot of that natural gas comes from Crimea which he stole from the Ukraine not long ago. And, they helped build up the Ukraine military forces to repel a possible future invasion since Putin has made his desires perfectly clear to the world.

It's the combination of #2 and #3. If anybody freezes to death this winter in Europe it will be a result of bad policy and not climate change. I just think it's ironic that the desperate, mislead, corrupt attempts to prevent warming is going cause death by freezing.

Yeah, they're pushing to overthrown capitalism. That's the main game. Greta spoke about it recently:

"The emissions are negligible compared to the impact of decisions and commitments made at these summits," he said.

"If you want emissions to come down, you want leaders in the room and media, scientists and stakeholders asking the important questions."

Translation: Don't you worry about our emissions; the little people will pay for that, and then some.

Good old Greta, out throwing hand grenades as usual. I can't help being reminded of Rick in the Young Ones.

Cheers
