Hello, all. I'm usually on this site to gain insight for my job as a pressure vessel engineer, but now I'm posting for personal reasons. I am about to begin construction of a new house using a pier & beam foundation. The beams are to be (4)2x12 SYP spanning 60' and supported roughly every 10' on concrete piers.
I would like to know what construction method should be used to join these 2x12's together, and any other information that pertains to it. We are under the 2006 IBC, if that matters. The property is in the Houston area and has been designed per windstorm requirements. I will not be doing the work myself; I just want to verify that what is being done is correct.
Any links, references, and/or information is greatly appreciated.
