Dear Friends,

I need to how How to get difflection of a simply supported beam at given intervals in Sap2000. I actually need generate a table of difflection with horizontal distances. it shows the difflection values actually when you display forces stress.(i.e.DIAGRAMS for FRAMS OBJECT DIALOG BOX) but i need to genarate a table. Does anyone knows anymethod pls respond.

Thanks...

Hi!

After you run the model, click the "show forces/stress" icon, there go to "display->show tables" (at the end), later you have to click on the output tables the deflections, and export them to excel, when you have them in excel you can make a graph. On the left side are the stations (distance) on each element and then deflections for X, Y and Z

Later today i'll put some pics to show you, because i have SAP at work

Sorry my english!

Thanks Diquan for your quick reply. But the problem here is you don't find the "Diflection out put table" in the list. you only find the joint displacement not the deflection along the beam. This was the problem. I still wondering why it was not there. Because it should be there. I tried with sap 2000 v10 and sap 2000 v 9.03 which are using in my office. I could't find that. Pls let me know how to get that. I'm very greatfull if you have some illustrations.

Thanks....

I didn't fin either the Deflection section in the Output. What you can do is to right-click on the deformed shape of the beam. In the window that will appear, you'll see at the bottom the panel Deflection. There you can see the values of the deflection for any given distance from node "i" to "j" of the beam.

Dear Diquan, Do you have any other way to develop beam deflection table.

Hi!

Yes you're right, on the output tables you only have the joint displacements, look how easy it is, select the element or the entire structure, then go to edit->divide frames, there you can divide it into let's says 100frames with a ratio of 1 (6 meters divided by 100, each frame is 6cm), then run the model, show forces/stress, then display->show tables, select the joint displacements and you're done!! is like a finite element analisys but made with a frames :)

Thanks Diguan,

Will this division of frame affect my structure. That mean will i have to introduce joint restraint at these divided points.

definitly not.
You dont have to introduce any additional fixity along the beam.
