can someone help me out with a chart showing
length of distance that you can span a certain
size beam, channel, angle iron, etc.
without having to use the formulas for quick referencing???

For a steel beam, it's not that simple....

The "load rating" of a beam depends, of course, on it's span.... however, the AISC Steel code also imposes corrections for the type of end connections selected for the beam. (are the considered "fixed" or "pinned&quot

Additionally, if the beam is narrow and deep, a correction must be imposed for local buckling of the web, or in some cases, bucking of the flange.

The loading type must be considered. Is it a uniform beam load or a concentrated load mid-span.

Timber and lumber charts are available with maximum loading for particular grades.... certain assumptions must be observed.
