Beam Pocket in 8" RC Wall at Wall's edge

I have a simple building with two 8" RC bearing walls and a steel beams spanning from wall to wall to support the floor. The interior beams will have typical beam pockets. I am concerned about the beam pockets for the exterior beams, since the 8" wall terminates and the beam will be bearing right at the edge of the wall. The question is what is the min. edge distance for the beam pocket if its an exterior beam bearing at walls edge?

I don't believe that there is any codified limit to the edge distance in question other than those that may be associated with the normal design of the connection (anchor bolt edge distances etc). Some things that might affect your edge distance include:

a) The practicality of fitting in all of your connection hardware there.

b) The wall'ss ability to hand the concentrated load imposed at the wall end.

c) Locally, a wedge of the wall beneath the beam shearing off.

d) Bearing etc.

e) Building envelope detailing at the perimeter.

Depending on the details of your situation, it may be prudent to replace your last beam(s) with concrete beams or a downturn in your slab. That said, I expect that you can indeed accomplish what you intend to. Another option is to cantilever the slab beyond the last beam an edge angle and/or stiffeners, thus shifting the beam itself inboard a bit.

KootK, thank you for your answer! You provided some great options. I am going to shift the beam away from the exterior wall to allow for at least 6" and if needed will weld a plate to top of the flange to pick up the cantilevered deck.

I greatly appreciate you taking your time and passing on your knowledge!
