Beam to solid general contact

Hi,
I am performing an analysis in which a steel wire moving inside a hollow tube. Wire is modeled with B31 beam element while tube is modeled with C3D8R. I am trying to bend the portion of wire outside of the tube,while bending it should generate contact with tube, but wire is not showing any contact with tube. General contact is used for this purpose. Please suggest the solution to avoid this no contact issue. Find the attached snapshot of wire penetration into tube.
