We have a water pump(Sulzer)that the located bearing in this pump
are pair taper roller bearing (31319) which mounted face to face.
The floating bearing of this pump is a NU bearing.
For repair this pump we need change the locating bearing.
In simple way how we can calculate the length (tolerance) of ring between outer rings of 31319 bearings and how we can adjust the axial internal clearance of bearing pair 31319.

First step, measure the bearing fit areas, both sides should have .0015 diametric clearances on the OD. All three bearings should have .0003- .0005 press to the shaft. After this is verified you’ll be ready to assemble. With the lid off drop the rotating element in place. Center the impellers in the case rings. This is where you want the angular contact thrust bearings to set the element. At this point you may have to adjust the bearing placement with a shim at the bearing shoulder of the shaft, and or gasket thickness between the bearing housing and bearing cap. Desired results – element centered, Flush ground thrust bearings .005 lateral clearance in bearing housing centering element. Floating bearing free to float in bearing housing

Good Luck, Flowman
