Bearing housings with pivot guides

Hello,

I recently came across bearings for a ball Mill that has on the housings 2 pivoting guides. What are these for? I will try to find a picture to post it. They are underneath the base of the housings and I do not know if there are to allow movement in a direction or what is its purpose...

It might be that initially were there for a reason and the purpose changed and we keep changing them because they are there.

Is a pillow block. The mill is a really old mill. Let me see if I can check at least the model of the mill. Here are the pics from pillow block.
