I just noticed this little tid-bit in some JAL promotional material about their new 787.

JAL said:
Higher ceilings and lower cabin pressure are subtle enhancements that make a noticeable difference to customer comfort, especially on long-haul flights.

Because a 17 hour flight is far more comfortable when you are passed out due to hypoxia.

They definitely don't want to go with more leg room or wider seats.

:)

Lower *effective altitude* cabin pressure, obviously.

Idiot reporters. Boeing reported Lower Effective Altitude like Bill said and the reporter didn't know what that meant so he twisted it to "Lower pressure".

"Belief" is the acceptance of an hypotheses in the absence of data.
"Prejudice" is having an opinion not supported by the preponderance of the data.
"Knowledge" is only found through the accumulation and analysis of data.

To be fair, Mint said the statement was in JAL promotional material, so I don't think that was the work of an "idiot reporter".

No, an idiot translator and/or marketeer possibly though.

I would say important information was lost in the translations. Heck I have seen similar types of misinterpretation when talking to fellow engineers of English first language, just cross discipline.

It did say it was a subtle enhancement.

Dont you longer for higher ceilings in your home? Such homes come at a cost but do feel more up market. I am far from being height challenged so that extra room above the bald patch is welcome.

For those who refuse to wear seat belts they will reach a higher termional velocity if the aircraft hits an air pocket. The height challenged will be even more at risk. Anyone want to do the maths?

air pocket...hahaha

"...those who refuse to wear seat belts..." (while flying and seated) have thicker skulls. They'll be fine.

Last time I was on JAL was Xmas 1994; except there was no Xmas. As best as I could estimate at the time, we hit the dateline minutes after Xmas day started local time, thus ending Xmas day almost as soon as it began.

The JAL flight attendants were great; and they entertainingly made the word "gentlemen" into a five-syllable word.
