Hello all!
I need some opinion on the results i got for the structural analysis of a steel dome using etabs.
These are the first 24 modes:
Modal 1 0.204 0.4461 0.0559 0.4461 0.0559 0 0
Modal 2 0.204 0.0559 0.4461 0.5019 0.5019 0 0
Modal 3 0.198 0 0 0.5019 0.5019 5.768E-06 5.768E-06
Modal 4 0.198 0.0031 0.0031 0.505 0.505 0 5.768E-06
Modal 5 0.198 0.0032 0.0032 0.5082 0.5082 0 5.768E-06
Modal 6 0.198 0.0001 0.0001 0.5083 0.5083 0 5.768E-06
Modal 7 0.193 0 0 0.5083 0.5083 0 5.768E-06
Modal 8 0.193 0 0 0.5083 0.5083 0 5.768E-06

Modal 20 0.152 0 0 0.7665 0.7665 0 1.257E-05
Modal 21 0.148 0 0 0.7665 0.7665 0 1.257E-05
Modal 22 0.142 3.354E-06 4.45E-05 0.7665 0.7665 0 1.257E-05
Modal 23 0.142 4.45E-05 3.35E-06 0.7665 0.7665 0 1.257E-05
Modal 24 0.138 0 0 0.7665 0.7665 0 1.257E-05

Modal 89 0.071 0.0628 0.0381 0.9019 0.9019 0 0.6336

Starting mode 89, i managed to get over 90% mass participation.
What do you think of these result. I only dealt with normal structures so far, a dome is somthing new to me and I dont have anything to compare results with and dont know what to expect.
i uploaded a foto with the dome structure from etabs.

Interpreting modal analysis results is a bit more artful than simply reviewing the data table.

We would like to see the mode shapes as well. But without there here are some comments.

-The frequency range seems reasonable for a typical 20ft building.
-There seem to be a lot of modes with matching frequency but different mass participation in each direction. This is perhaps a result of the symmetry in the dome, but I would investigate this some more.
-Since your data table is un labeled, I can't see which modes have the most mass participation. But generally I like to review the modes with major mass participation in each direction, look at the displaced shape, and ask myself does this make sense.
